To Serve God, S.R. I grew up in Christian denominations and as a small child I had some desire to serve the Lord. I wanted to do something for the Lord but all that I knew was to be a pastor or a missionary. As a shy little girl neither of those options seemed likely.
As I got older I did not think much about serving the Lord. I just tried to be a good Christian. In college I began to meet with some Christians who loved the Lord and studied the Bible. Slowly I became aware that there were some people on my campus who served the Lord with their time to preach the gospel and spend time with the students to read the Bible, study and pray. Gradually I realized that this was something I could do for the Lord, but I needed training and practice to be a proper person to serve the Lord. Around the same time I learned about the Full-Time Training in Anaheim (FTTA). The FTTA trains and perfects Christians to live a life according to God's Word.
My experience in the FTTA has taught me that I need to be trained not to do something for the Lord but to allow the Lord to do something in me. My concept was that I needed to be trained in how to preach the gospel and how to take care of new believers. I do need to be trained in these things, but what I have realized in the FTTA is that more than anything I need the Lord to impart His life into me and to spread into my mind, emotion and will, until I spontaneously express Him. My being able to serve God is more a matter of my being one spirit with the Lord, than my trying to do something for Him (1 Corinthians 6:17).
